QR 12 Ficus Carica (Common Fig)
This recipe has been taken from Culpeper's Last Legacy. The remedies were bequeathed to his wife and not published until 1657, after his death. The book is described as containing some of Nicholas Culpeper's most important, secret remedies for the good of the public. According to the 'Doctrine of Signatures', the fig could be used to increase fertility as it was believed to boost the number and flow of sperm. The growing fruits hang in pairs and are packed with seeds; this was seen as a sign.
